A conversation on community safety at the Asawase Central Mosque brought together Muslim leaders and residents to discuss the risks posed by illicit firearms and gun-related violence.

The Ag. Head of Ashanti Regional Office, Mr. Kenneth Oduro, used the engagement to create awareness on dangers of small arms and the everyday realities of community safety, including the impact of firearm-related incidents on families and neighbourhoods.

The conversation went beyond awareness. Participants raised practical concerns about reporting suspicious activities, confidentiality when making reports, and the implications of firing warning shots, providing an opportunity for NACSA to clarify issues that directly affect community safety.

Muslim leaders welcomed the engagement and called for continued community-level education on firearms, peace and security.

The engagement reaffirmed the value of working through trusted community institutions such as mosques to reach residents, encourage vigilance and strengthen collective responsibility for preventing gun violence.
