NACSA, in collaboration with the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, organised a Town Hall Meeting to raise awareness on the dangers associated with the proliferation of illicit small arms and their implications for peace, security, and development within the municipality.

The engagement brought together traditional leaders, assembly members, security agencies, youth groups, religious leaders, and community members to deliberate on the growing threat posed by the uncontrolled circulation of small arms and its impact on the safety and wellbeing of communities.

Speaking at the meeting, NACSA’s Acting Head of Programmes, Abdul Jaleel Suleiman, highlighted some of the far-reaching consequences of illicit arms proliferation, including armed violence, crime, insecurity, and conflict, all of which undermine peace, social cohesion, and economic progress. He stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved in an environment characterised by fear and insecurity.

Participants were encouraged to support efforts aimed at preventing the illicit possession, transfer, and misuse of small arms by providing relevant information to security agencies and promoting a culture of peace, tolerance, and dialogue within their communities.

The Ketu North Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Commission and other key stakeholders to promote peace and ensure a safe and secure environment conducive to sustainable development.
