The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) was honoured to host Lt. Col. Frederick Oppong Essel, a Military Advisor from the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) during a courtesy visit to the Commission.
The visit focused on discussions regarding the challenges of illicit arms proliferation in Ghana, ongoing security efforts to counter threats from the volatile Sahelian region, as well as identifying areas to strengthen the Accra Initiative technically.
Ag. Deputy Executive Secretary, Mr. Mohammed Gali Salam, emphasized the importance of collaborative and data-driven approaches in the fight against illicit proliferation of arms. He called for intensified research into the root causes of the demand, supply and misuse of small arms in Ghana to guide targeted, responsive interventions.

Lt. Col. Essel commended NACSA’s decentralized operations, particularly its presence in the regions and border posts, highlighting how such structures serve as deterrent to illicit arms-related activities.

NACSA remains committed to achieving a Ghana free of gun violence through strategic advocacy, strong partnerships, and meaningful collaboration.
