In a major step toward curbing the illicit movement of arms and ammunition, the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA), in collaboration with key security and intelligence agencies, supported the successful interception of suspected explosives at the Segbe border on Saturday, 7th June 2025.

The operation was the result of coordinated efforts among personnel from National Security, NACSA, Defense Intelligence, the Narcotics Control Commission, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the National Investigative Bureau.

At around 12:00 noon, border officials identified and intercepted four suspicious bags containing a total of 397 pieces of explosives. Upon inspection, the Customs Commander immediately contacted the NACSA officer stationed at the Aflao border post to initiate the appropriate follow-up actions.

Acting promptly, NACSA with the support of the Minerals Commission and Customs facilitated the safe transfer of the seized items. The explosives were contained in four bags, with individual counts of 40, 40, 157, and 160 pieces respectively.

NACSA wishes to remind the public that the illegal possession, use, or trafficking of explosives is a serious criminal offense under Section 192 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act (Act 29). It is classified as a first-degree felony, punishable by a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment upon conviction.

This successful interception underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding Ghana’s borders and preventing the proliferation of arms, ammunition and explosives. NACSA urges all licensed arms and ammunition dealers to strictly adhere to regulatory guidelines. Compliance is essential to preventing the diversion of these materials into illicit hands, where they may contribute to organized crime and violent conflict.
