A two-member delegation from the ECOWAS Commission has embarked on a monitoring mission to the National Commission on Small Arms and light weapons to acertain the extent of the implementation of the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and light weapons, their ammunition and other related materials.

Article 25 of the ECOWAS Convention, mandates the ECOWAS Commission, to monitor the implementation of the Convention hence the deployment of a mission to Ghana and Sierra Leone, to discuss with the relevant authorities the level of implementation of the Convention.
Members of the delegation include Mr Oluwafisan BANKALE, Advocacy and communication Officer and Marie Françoise WININGA, Programme Officer, Small Arms Division of the ECOWAS Commission.
The visit was also to discuss with National Commissions, the practicalities of disbursement and use of funds that have been allocated by the ECOWAS Commission to support some National Commissions, including those of Ghana and Sierra Leone within the framework of the implementation of certain activities of the Convention.
