THE GHANA ARMS INCIDENCE DATABASE SYSTEM (GAD) VALIDATION WORKSHOP TAKES PLACE IN ACCRA

The Ghana Arms Incidence Database System (The GAD) validation workshop for security agencies took place from 22nd-23rd June, 2021 at the Commission’s Head-Office in Accra.

The event was attended by participants representing different security and public institutions.

The purpose of the workshop was to seek inputs and to validate the new software (The GAD) that has been developed by the Small Arms Commission in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.

The 2-day workshop involved opening remarks by the Executive Secretary and Head of Programs of the Commission, Mr. Jones Applerh and Mr. Johnson Asante- Twum respectively, presentations by the IT and Research Team and several discussions among the participants.

The software will enable the Small Arms Commission gather data on arms related incidences, provide policy advice and assistance in weapons tracing and also analysis on arms incidence on the victims and the economy.

Gathering of the data will be in two folds: Arms Interception Related Incidence and Crime Incidence. The workshop was funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) through United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
