The Gun Amnesty Train made a stop in Fadema, Accra, when the sensitization team paid a courtesy call on His Eminence, the National Chief Imam.
During the visit, the team, led by Dr. Adam Bonaa, Executive Secretary of the Commission, briefed His Eminence on the Gun Amnesty Programme (GAP) and the progress made since the programme began on December 1, 2025. The delegation included DCOP Duuti Tuaruka, Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, management and staff of the Commission, Civil Society Organizations, and members of the media.
DCOP Duuti Tuaruka, the Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, expressed the Police’s readiness to support the successful implementation of the GAP.
It was encouraging when the National Chief Imam accepted the role of Ambassador for the Gun Amnesty Programme. He urged all Muslim youth, opinion leaders, traditional authorities, religious bodies, and Ghanaians in general to take advantage of the Gun Amnesty Programme and surrender their illicit firearms. He further emphasized that this action would enhance peace, safety and security in the country as well as promote development.
The Gun Amnesty Programme will end on January 15, 2026, after which Joint Special Operations and swoops will begin to retrieve any remaining illicit firearms. Individuals who do not take advantage of the Amnesty period to surrender their illicit firearms will be considered criminals with the intent to use these firearms for illegal activities and will face arrest and prosecution.
