To fortify border security and combat cross-border illicit firearms trafficking, the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) partnered with Gateway Services Limited (GSL), a subsidiary of the COTECNA Group to conduct a three-day Image Analysis and Capacity Building Programme. The training held at the GSL Conference Room at the Elubo Scanning Site from November 27th to 29th, 2023, aimed to enhance the skills of officers stationed at Elubo-Cross Border Office and the Elubo Scanning Site.
Led by Alexander Kesse, a Non-Intrusive Inspection Coach, the program focused on equipping officers with practical skills to analyze computer, scanned generated images effectively. The goal was to determined whether declarations align with the actual contents of containers, cargoes, trucks, vehicles, and more, thereby strengthening border security against potential cross-border trafficking of illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), ammunition, related materials, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
Mr. Alexander Kesse stressed the importance of providing Quality Radioscopic Imaging, linking it to improved security, safety, and the generation of additional revenue. He emphasized the evolution of cargo scanning from traditional imaging to security scanning from traditional imaging to security scanning, radiational scanning, and cargo scan imaging.
Mr. Paul Akwasi Baami, NACSA Programmes Officer, expressed his appreciation for the program, noting its education, interactive, and practical nature. He highlighted the significance of employing radioscopic imaging technology in the fight against the illicit trafficking of SALW, their ammunition, and related materials.
Assistant Programmes Officer, Mr. Jesse Acquah, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the training’s impact on his understanding of computer-scanned generated images. He anticipates employing these skills to support efforts against potential concealment of Small Arms and Light Weapons in consignments.
Administrative Assistant, Miss Hilda Adjei Prince Agbodjan, emphasized that the training equipped her with the relevant skills to conduct detailed analysis of computer-scanned generated images, facilitating informed decision-making regarding container contents.
This collaboration signifies a crucial step in enhancing the country’s border security measures against the illicit trafficking of firearms and related materials, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining national safety and security.
